$4.5 Borrowing Plan Passes

The Select Commission on Emergency COVID-19 Borrowing which consists of four Democrats who are supposed be a check against the Democrat majroity in the Legislature and the Democrat governor borrowing recklessly this afternoon approved reckless borrowing. The full ‘discussion’ and vote is at the bottom of this blog but don’t bother watching beyond this warning from the South Jersey Chamber of Commerce:

What is missing here is the willful obliviousness of all parties to what would normally not be considered an advantage but, in this situation, can be and it has nothing to do with any paths to progress.

As one of the most corrupt states in the nation there are ways to come up with $4.5 billion without borrowing, starting with:

1. Eliminating county government (or municipal government but that might be trickier).
2. Stopping pay for office holders: perhaps then public-minded citizens who don’t need pecuniary incentives will become interested.
3. Taxing campaign contributions at levels commensurate to the additional cost taxpayers can be expected to shoulder.
4. Paying attention to legalized theft (Union County is stealing Open Space tax money for their own budget and is now funding projects to make payments on bonds that would otherwise default).

Even a hint of a clean-up could scare politicians away from the business-as-usual pay-to-play procurement system that annually reaps billions of dollars for themselves and their cronies.
