$4.5 Borrowing Plan Passes

The Select Commission on Emergency COVID-19 Borrowing which consists of four Democrats who are supposed be a check against the Democrat majroity in the Legislature and the Democrat governor borrowing recklessly this afternoon approved reckless borrowing. The full ‘discussion’ and vote is at the bottom of this blog but don’t bother watching beyond this warning from the South Jersey Chamber of Commerce:
.

.
What is missing here is the willful obliviousness of all parties to what would normally not be considered an advantage but, in this situation, can be and it has nothing to do with any paths to progress.

As one of the most corrupt states in the nation there are ways to come up with $4.5 billion without borrowing, starting with:

  1. Eliminating county government (or municipal government but that might be trickier).
  2. Stopping pay for office holders: perhaps then public-minded citizens who don’t need pecuniary incentives will become interested.
  3. Taxing campaign contributions at levels commensurate to the additional cost taxpayers can be expected to shoulder.
  4. Paying attention to legalized theft (Union County is stealing Open Space tax money for their own budget and is now funding projects to make payments on bonds that would otherwise default).

Even a hint of a clean-up could scare politicians away from the business-as-usual pay-to-play procurement system that annually reaps billions of dollars for themselves and their cronies.

    Adding #s 5 and 6………..

    5) Hard Freeze all future service DB pension accruals for all CURRENT workers, and replace it with a DC (401K-style) Plan with a Taxpayer contribution comparable to what Private Sector employers typically contributed into THEIR workers’ 401K Plans …… about 4% of pay.

    6) Reduce Taxpayer subsidies for Public Sector retiree healthcare benefits (for all active and retired workers) to what Private Sector employers typically contribute towards THEIR workers retiree healthcare benefits ………. in MOST cases, NOTHING.
    ——————————-

Unless demonstrably lower wages can be proven, there is ZERO justification for Taxpayers providing ANY greater (i.e more valuable) Public Sector pensions or benefits. And IF such demonstrably lower wages can be proven, the AMOUNT of greater pensions and benefits should not exceed the amount necessary to erase that wage shortfall.

It’s WAY past time to STOP treating Taxpayers as the “sucker” to be financially abused.

You will be saying the same crap in 2030. Lol. Hopefully, I will have lost interest in you by then. For now, still kinda into your nonsense somewhat. 😏 I give you credit. I mean you know those things won’t happen….but you still try. Lol. God bless you. Limousine liberal.

Listen to yourself E, quoting ………..

“broken record”, “no way!!”, “protect our pensions”, “your nonsense”, etc.

You sure do have a problem with NOT granting Public Sector workers MORE (MUCH more) than what comparable Private Sector workers typically get from their employers …… which is all that I am advocating for.

I call that being GREEDY (perhaps even a “MOOCHER”) . What do you call it ?

        • You’ve never quite named a “comparable” private sector job. Can you name one? Where officers get cursed at all night, fireworks and hit in head with baseball bat, and ambushed and shot to death? I’ll wait.
You want to talk about these other public sector jobs fine. Leave the cops alone.
Again, my concern in regards to my compensation package is what me and my employer can agree on. That’s all. Not what an office worker makes or a banker or a plumber etc. that’s none of my concern. we have established what pfrs cost you a year. Not worried about you falling into financial difficulty because of it. Cause you won’t.
In fact. Biden will cost you MUCH more than your police pensions.

LOL… How MANY TIES do I have to educate you El Feo? The construction trades are almost comparable, except the trades are: 1) far more dangerous; and 2) far more physically demanding.

          • Again, you claim that may pay and benefits should mirror on some level the private sector. But don’t give us any idea…of what that should entail. Except that I am greedy—despite the FACT that you said you would’ve taken the same deals I have throughout my career. You OWN that statement TL. So either you are greedy or I am NOT. I say I should be able to earn whatever my employer is willing to pay. Regardless of what the private sector earns or doesn’t earn.
@rex— my old man, God rest his soul, was a union electrician in NYC. Never paid a dime for health care EVEN into retirement. Had a pension that when added to SS was pretty darn close to a police officers and almost always had steady work including overtime. My mother never had to work (did wallpapering on the side) shows you the era. 1970-80’s. Lol. So maybe your onto something. Most full time contractors out my way that have been around a bit make in excess of six figures.

            E,

As I have already stated, Public Sector jobs (even when there is no direct comparison in the Private Sector) should be compared to Private Sector jobs that require reasonably equvalent levels of experience, education, skills, and knowledge (for which there are ALWAYS many), even though they may be in a different field.

You don’t like that approach because (a) you know you are WAY over-compensated under any/every such analysis/comparison, and (b) insisting on the uniqueness (and un-comparability) of police work attempts to invalidate even contemplating the comparison. I don’t buy that, not for a minute.

By-the-way, I’m not focusing only on Police work ……. but ALL Public Sector positions. Those working in the Public Sector who cannot accept that there is NO JUSTIFICATION for greater Total Compensation (wage + pensions + benefits) when working in a Public Sector job that, in the Private Sector, requires reasonably equvalent levels of experience, education, skills, and knowledge ……………. are simply MOOCHERS.

And MOOCHERS should be paid back by the Taxpayers that they are mooching FROM ……… with those Taxpayers finding a way to renege on those excessive promises……….. specifically, the ludicrously excessive, unnecessary, unjust, and unaffordable pensions and retiree healthcare benefits.

Because it is my livelihood and it is how most of the income is generated for my family. Be honest, this does not make me greedy or a Moocher etc. it is simply an agreement between employer and employee.

    Off Topic ………..

Been wondering about Trump’s paying his daughter a $700K consulting fee for services related to this business activities when she is an “employee”-executive at the Trump Organization. Why would he do that?

    Here’s a possibility…………

Trump get a deduction for the $7007K payout to his daughter as a business expense ….. just enough to get HIS personal income almost down to zero and have no (or perhaps only a $750) tax liability.

BUT, now Ivanka has $700K in incremental taxable income. But maybe it’s not a “wash” because, being married to Jared Kushner with a huge real estate business might (like Donald Trump), gets sufficient depreciation on those real estate holdings to create an annual paper loss (i.e., no taxable income). If so, and his losses are $700K or greater, VOILA, assuming Jared & Ivanka file a joint return, neither Donald nor Ivanka pay ANY taxes on that $700K that came from the Donald.

If that’s what happened, the “legal” issue is ………. (a) did Ivanka, as a consultant, provide services that (a) were really outside the scope of her regular employment wages, and (b) were they sufficient in amount/time and value to justify a $700K fee?

“Tax documents obtained by The New York Times show that during the making of The Apprentice, he deducted $70,000 for the cost of his haircuts and hairstyling. Trump’s businesses also wrote off “at least $95,464 paid to a favorite hair and makeup artist of Ivanka Trump,” the Times reported.

    WTF ?

  5. TL, it may sound bizarre to you but if these expenses were legitimate business expenses for him and the daughter then it’s a deduction….wealthy people deduct all kinds of things on their tax returns.

CHANGE THE TAX CODES if this is so upsetting to Congress. Of course, they all take advantage of the same things but hey who cares

I wonder if all of those media pundits deduct for hair and make up? CNN, Fox news, all of them I would love to know that.

    • Biden did far better. Maybe his plan was to be slow etc and then set a low bar for himself. Candidly, I think trump came off as a bully.
Unfortunately, I think he may have cost himself many swing voters who would’ve voted for him due to the riots etc. Trump interrupted far more than Biden. He should’ve SHUT the FUCK UP and let Biden blab on and commit gaffes. He didn’t do it. He got Biden angry and instead of letting him babble on, he made him look like the calmer candidate who expressed anger himself because it came at him first. Hard to mess up when you’re simply standing up for yourself and NOT talking about policy. Trump made it very hard for an undecided voter to choose him. I think he may have cost himself the election last night. We were all expecting Biden screw ups. Didn’t happen. Trump helped that not happen by half the debate being Wallace trying to maintain control.

The NON STOP interrupting by Trump was a huge blunder, and a turn off. Trump needs to either listen to his advisors or get a better grasp on social norms, because that was stupidity to the MAX. Like I posted, Trump did not live up to my expectations and Sleepy Joe did far better than I could have ever imagined. I expected gaffe after gaffe after gaffe from Sleepy Joe. Sleepy Joe made no gaffes that I caught, well one when he made a reference to some number/statistic that was clearly off, but I cannot even recall what it was over, that is how bad Trump blundered. All I remember was Trump’s bullying interruptions, almost making us feel sorry for Sleepy Joe (almost!!)

  11. Totally agree that watching that debate last night was exhausting and I’ll say ridiculous. Watching two old men degrade themselves. Biden did way better than I would have thought. Trump had ample opportunity to stick to facts, stick to his record, produce numbers but he chose to interrupt and engage in utter childish nonsense. Biden was not much better with the name calling and bumbling answers. No substance coming from either candidate. I don’t think anyone undecided may have been swayed one way or the other.

Well friends, I’m sure we had hoped for more but sorry to say I feel that if this is the best our great country can come up with then we are all in for a real shock no matter who wins. I think I’ll be sitting out this election.

Chris Wallace, although slightly biased towards Biden, won the debate and was the only professional adult in the room IMO.

Trump, Aug. 15, 2017: I’m not talking about the neo-Nazis and the white nationalists, because they should be condemned totally.

            https://www.factcheck.org/2020/02/trump-has-condemned-white-supremacists/

Reporter: I just didn’t understand what you were saying. You were saying the press has treated white nationalists unfairly? …

Trump: No, no. There were people in that rally, and I looked the night before. If you look, they were people protesting very quietly, the taking down of the statue of Robert E. Lee. I’m sure in that group there were some bad ones. The following day, it looked like they had some rough, bad people, neo-Nazis, white nationalists, whatever you want to call them. But you had a lot of people in that group that were there to innocently protest and very legally protest, because you know, I don’t know if you know, they had a permit. The other group didn’t have a permit. So I only tell you this: There are two sides to a story.

“Good people on both sides”… peaceful protesters.
