This got me to thinking about schools reopening in New Jersey so Murphy can pretend that the state is making progress in fighting the coronavirus outbreak. It’s not. We can’t know who is infected and setting all those covid-carriers loose on the population will only increase the chances that everybody will eventually be infected with the older and fatter of us dying.
But if we have no schools then what happens to the teachers? As of now they are getting paid for doing nothing (not unique around here so it may go on for some time) but eventually it may occur to some politicians to stop those paychecks. That brings us to all those participants in the Teachers Pension and Annuity Fund (TPAF) who would retiree. How many people and how much money would that come to?

The latest update of active participants is through March 31, 2020 and when pared down to only TPAF members we get:
142,096 participants with total annual salaries of $10,844,923,690.
Many are eligible to retire and there might even be early retirement incentives (if the NJEA requests them) but of those who have 25 years of service there are:
- participants: 13,566
- salaries: $1,415,641,398
- estimated pensions: $779,986,203
Obviously most participants would prefer to draw those higher salaries (as would their unions who have not yet devised a system to get dues out of pensioners) but, if we go another couple of years without public education, the idea of terminating the TPAF might occur to the next Republican governor.
Dates of birth are not included in the data so there would be additional participants who have reached the plan’s retirement age and when you add on early and disability retirees plus whatever the regular terminees and nonvested participants (if there will be any) would get (at least the return of their contributions) the burden on the TPAF (which will also be deprived of that employee contribution inflow) could bring the plan to its depletion date in that first year.

Good question. A “triage” is used in Emergency Rooms and usually means to place people in a level of priority based on severity of injury. For unemployment claims could it mean those out of work longest get some sort of priority? Just a guess, I have no idea. But these commercials really disgust me because for the most part Gov employees have not faced ANY adversity from Covid-19 at all. Nothing. When at least 1/3 of the nation in real life-private sector-have lost their job. And who knows how many have had hours reduced by 50%, 75%, or more. But not the special, pampered class, the public sector.NO lay offs. NO reduced work schedules.NO reduced wages or fringe benefits. NOTHING. And yet before they have taken ANY HIT whatsoever the start running these hand out commercials seeking a bailout from the entire nation- the entire private sector that have suffered 100 times worse??? . It is disgusting and I pray every day that these pampered whinebabies get whacked real hard- and take a dose of reality for once in their pathetic leach filled lives.

I am seeing a ton of Huntingon Learning center commercials. The problem is getting the taxpayer money back. Read the story of the LA teachers union. Not to mention, last year….I think they had 20 hours of instruction, and nobody bothered to show up (the students).

THIS….as far as schools being closed since March, IMHO it was nothing more than a paid vacation for teachers and school staff. I have spoken to so many parents (I make it a point to bring up the topic) and all, at least that I have spoken with, are totally disgusted with the whole thing but don’t know what they can really do about it.
It is my understanding that even if schools go all remote learning it’s for at best 2-3 hours a day. Most teachers just post work sheets and assignments to the web pages.
Some actually video tape a lecture. What does that take about 20 minutes? It’s up to the parents to make sure the kids get the work done. If students do physically go back to school it will only be a half day.
I was talking to my neighbor who is a teacher and she said if they are “forced” to go back many are going to go out on sick leave, get those elective surgeries, get doctors notes stating that they have medical conditions where they can’t be around people, etc etc
The better off parents can afford Huntingdon but what about everybody else? What about those parents who actually have a job they have to go back to? What about disabled students who really need that extra in class support?
Disgusting over paid cry babies. Ask Home Depot, Walmart, ShipRites, etc how they did it without losing anybody. Private and Catholic schools are opening on a full 5 day schedule with precautions in place.
We should all be refunded for those services not received or at least partial refund of our school taxes…….I wonder when people will just wake up to the rip off. It is disgusting and I really can’t believe that parents would stand for this but then again we are in NJ

Wait till they start building the “low income” housing in the swanky white suburbs. We already have a version of that in NJ but just wait until the mandates are increased and federally mandated into every suburban community nationwide. I can’t believe that these ultra left predominantly well off people don’t see the danger in how this will effect their schools, their neighborhoods, their home values, their increased taxes, the additional strain on water and utility systems, they infra structure, more crime.

NJ, is not that liberal or progressive. Did you know, NJ has some of the most segregated schools in the entire country? You think they rich people of Glen Ridge will allow their kids to share a school with Belleville? NJ is NIMBY, it is liking paying a charity instead on volunteering.
Hoboken is a former Abbott district (still gets the money though, whatever you call it), yet only 40% of the students are in traditional public schools. Why do you think that is????????????????

This, I was not aware that NJ is that segregated and I’m not familiar with Glen Ridge or Belleville but I would think that school choice, charter schools, reimbursed tuition for private school choice would work well for those lower income districts whose parents wish to send their children to better districts or for anyone else.
Of course, the NJEA and the teachers would rather keep everyone trapped in the shit hole schools of NJ where lots and lots of money from the wealthier suburbs pay for all of those extra teachers, programs, administrators, etc. and is then passed onto us the taxpayer. Not too many great outcomes either
Most if not all NJ towns and suburbs have affordable housing mandates for low income but if education and discipline is not stressed in the home forgetta bout it

Oh and wanted to add, yeah some teachers are important and have their place but they are not as important as they think they are. The stupid parents gave away all of their power through the years because they were too busy working to pay the bills and high taxes, the inflated grades mistakenly led parents to believe that the child was doing well.
Most teachers suck and could be replaced by a smart high schooler. Most of the work or instruction is worksheets to complete. And those poor teachers have to grade papers at night. Boo hoo……most are so unprofessional in demeanor, dress and conversation that I can’t understand how they keep their jobs, oh yeah the NJEA
We now accept and condone obesity from young children to obese adults and celebrate it as “different body types” despite all of the medical conditions that being obese can cause and contribute to and we can never say anything

Like in most industries the money gets sucked up by middlemen (or persons). Try this: pay teachers, janitors $300 per hour. Anyone who doesn’t show up in a school doesn’t get paid on the taxpayer dime. NJEA,NEA, unions, book publishers, administrators, lobbyists….sorry go ask in-school staff to fork over a chunk of their check. The medical system is the same. 80% of that “shove a gun down your throat and pay it” money doesn’t go to people with scalpels trying to save your sorry butt. I’ve seen teachers sweat blood to help students, others not bother to even show up for work.

IMO the NJEA is the greatest detriment to American education in the history of our country. Unless naturally intelligent (are we allowed to say that) most students are mediocre at best. As a counterpoint, it is NOT just the teachers guys. A generation or two ago if a kid got a bad grade his parents gave HIM shit…..now it is a visit to the teacher or principal. The parents are mainly to blame MJ. They have little to no involvement with the school. Then bitch when precious Susie violates the dress code. Same w the police. As a result, we have kids who never get disciplined. Also as a counterpoint, republicans universally mocked M Obama and her eat right campaign. 🤷♂️

More politics yesterday, teachers protesting. In Georgia, amazingly…260 school employees have the virus, or wait…know someone who does. They flooded the media with calls and emails.
It is amazing to me, because the incubation period is 4-10 days, yet 260 got it in 24 hours!!!

Very true. And very sad. IMO, these people are “hardwired wrong”. If a 15 year old molests a child, that same person when 75 years old will be looking to do the same thing. There is no cure for this. The choice should be castration or long long prison sentences.
And this list is just a small sampling. People in positions of authority. Imagine how many are out their that fly under the radar.
