New Jersey Teachers’ Dues: Why Are They The Highest In The Nation And What Are They Paying For?

That’s the title of a report issued by the Sunlight Policy Center of New Jersey. Excerpts below.

Teachers have never really had a choice about joining the New Jersey Education Association (NJEA). Up until 2018, teachers were forced to join the NJEA because they were required to pay up to 85 percent of regular dues in agency fees even if they chose not to join the NJEA. Unsurprisingly, more than 99 percent of teachers joined the NJEA. Agency fees were ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court in 2018 but were replaced by equally coercive state legislation (discussed on pages 5-6). So teachers are still effectively forced to join the NJEA. (page 3)

Coincident with ascendance of the political organizers in 2013, the NJEA created its own Super PAC, Garden State Forward (GSF). Registered under Section 527, GSF can spend unlimited amounts in independent expenditures in support of favored candidates or political issues. (page 19)

NJEA, State Police PBA, SEIU, AFSCME – all part of the cabal that “took over” the State of New Jersey about 40 years ago. Power corrupts, and when you attach these corrupt groups with crooked and self-serving politicians, the poor tax paying schmucks not on the gravy train are screwed. Can’t wait for SS New Jersey to sink beneath the waves.

I think a large part of this country has already sunk beneath the waves. And it has nothing to do with finance.

You’ll notice I said State Police PBA, not local LEO’s. They had that crooked clown Albio whatever his name is reduce their full pension years from 25 to 20. This whole state is one big crooked mess. But I do feel sorry for you guys. Undeserved and will not stand unless we elect some bozo SJW as President.

All local cops and their associations are together part of the NJSPBA.
And it was Christie Whitman who made the 20 and our bill law. The other Christie tried to end it and Murphy and the unanimous votes of the legislature that restored it. That said, almost no one packs it in at 20. That may change with all the crap going on. Sad state of affairs. These “kids” are out of control. None of them have decent jobs. Even the well educated ones (liberals with gender studies degrees). Notice how no HVAC installers are at these things? No plumbers, masons etc. what a joke this country has become. Liberal politicians…let the police take back the streets for the good of the populace.
And the boZo won’t be the president but the sjw VP that you have to watch for.

Personally (after doing whatever we need to legally make such changes), I’d MUCH MUCH rather see a hard freeze to the DB pensions for the future service of all CURRENT workers, and a rapid and complete end (over no more than 2-3 years) in ALL retiree healthcare subsidies.

Figure out how to do it legally and to hell with “promises made” BS, being nothing but locking-in the ripoff of Private Sector Taxpayers.

In the meantime, in lieu of that will you settle for a virtual friendship with a PFRS member? 🤷‍♂️😉🤣
We have enough division in this country.

Nothing in my comment was directed at you.

Yes, we can be virtual friends …….. but best for us to not discuss your pension. 🙂

If you think the FF’s are bad, check out what lifeguards (F’ng Lifeguards!!) make in Newport Beach, CA. The inmates are literally running the prison!

Yeah I know. But here they’re starting FRESH …. with NO DB PENSIONS and none of the BS salary add-ons. Now THAT’s the way to go.

The one thing I would have done differently was make the vesting period for the 4301A Plan a bit longer 5 – 6 years, AND have a payback provision for the cost of their training that linearly runs down to zero over the same 5 – 6 years. THAT would help deter those newly trained from jumping ship (and moving to a Agency with a DB Plan) right after being trained.

I believe those are the dozen or so year round command staff, trainers, etc. The two hundred plus seasonal guards make more like $12-$18/hr

            Quoting ………… “I believe” ?

Really? As you always say ………. Prove it , with data.

But the big buzz is about this

            https://www.ocregister.com/2011/05/10/lifeguarding-in-oc-is-totally-lucrative-some-make-over-200k/

” According to a city report on lifeguard pay for the calendar year 2010, of the 14 full-time lifeguards, 13 collected more than $120,000 in total compensation; one lifeguard collected $98,160.65. ”

” Currently, Newport Beach has 13 full-time active lifeguards and hires about 210 seasonal and part-time “tower” guards…”

Old news, literally (2011) I’m sure they make much more now

            Stephen Douglas,

Looks like your first link is not for PUBLIC Sector lifeguards.

NO, you do NOT want to check that out. It is better to ram your head into a brick wall. Orange County “Life Guards” receive the ridiculous 3%@50 public safety pensions. F*&^ Them!

LAPD has had a 5 year employment contract for 20+ years, at least. Maybe longer. If you leave for a DIFFERENT AGENCY within the first 5 years you pay BACK the academy and other training costs. The amount is pro rated of course, so if you leave at the 3 month mark you are paying back full costs, $100K+. if you leave that the 4.5 year mark you payback a few grand … That is totally fair. The vesting period for the pension is a measly 5 years, so if they bail it will be in year 1 or 2, past that they would be a financial idiot to bail, when they are so close to that short 5 year mark to vest in the pension plan. No one is going to bai in year 3 4 or 5, unless they only have a GED and are financially illiterate… Oh Oh, that covers 90% of LAPD, My Bad 🐕 🐕 🐕

Lol. YOU are the one discussing my pension. Although to be fair, your proposal doesn’t effect me. On the health side it would. Of course.

Hey, at this point we need all the support we can get from folks who are sick of the nonsense.

Interesting comparison—-have you seen “Man in the High Castle”? Season 3?
About a generation after the Nazis won world war 2 and got mainstream America (the American Reich) under their control and buying into the fascist way of life, they started a campaign to wipe out pre war American history. The Liberty Bell was melted, the Statue Of Liberty 🗽 bombed at a joyous celebration (along with a closeup of the July IV 1776 inscription on her book sinking into the Hudson) MT Rushmore, etc and of course statues of our founding fathers being torn down). New statutes went up in most cases.
This was literally something I never thought we would see in real life. I was wrong.
Substitute Nazi for “left wing” and you get the idea.
And the idea that no one is stopping them and the blind eyes turned by Dems and even some GoP is absolutely disgusting

I seem to recall a scene like that in one of the Planet of the Apes movies.
