Miscellany: Pensions, Movies, and EA Meetings

Some tidbits starting with a clip from a movie (guess which in the comment section) that hearkens back to an age when pensions meant security.

.
Continuing with movies there are several classic and rare ones that libraries and regular download sites (rarbg.to; 1337x.to, and even archive.org) do not have so the discovery of rarefilmm.com is most welcome. I downloaded The Scoundrel with no trouble and it’s a fantastic film.

Getting back to pensions, I will be watching a few more movies in early April as this will be the first time in about 20 years that I will not be attending the Enrolled Actuaries meeting in Washington, DC. I may never attend another one for a number of reasons:

  • Timing; right before April 15
  • Secrecy: no taping as if we have something to hide (we do but it’s rarely discussed – which is another reason)
  • Three parts: catering almost equally to multiemployer, public, and private sector plans (two of which interest me but are not work-related)

I will likely go back to attending ASPPA metings (next one being in Philadelphia in May) and watching their webcasts which means I have no qualm about recommending the best place to stay that I have found in Washington, DC.  Reasonable cost and Jack is very considerate of his guests.

Daddy Long Legs with Fred Astaire and Leslie Caron. Thanks for putting up the link to rarefilms.
